What to look for when hiring a face painter by a Festival Face Painter in Florida and Connecticut
Hi there, I'm JoAnna, owner of Honey Bunch Face Painting, a Florida based face painting company from St Petesrburg FL...
I've been blessed to have had the experience of painting literally thousands of faces throughout the East coast at Festivals, Fairs and Carnivals. Sometimes, I paint at private parties but usually my daughter is the face painter for birthday parties and private events. We also Face Paint in Connecticut during the summer months.
So, I wanted to talk about what you as a parent and also as a wise consumer, should look for when hiring a face painter...
I get calls every day from parents looking to book a party and whom are shopping around for a quote. I ask every caller if they have viewed my site? Is that how you found me? Surprisingly, 90% of my callers say no, they just did a web search for face painting and called the first that came up. They just want the cheapest pricing.
Folks, when you are hiring a face painter, please go to their site and view their face painting artwork...
Read all their reviews. See what their clients are saying. See if their are pictures and a bio of who the Face Painters are on the site. Read about the products they use. Make sure it's quality makeup.
Please do not just hire someone because they were cheapest!
You could be saving $25 on the better price, but ultimately losing $150 because they did not perform up to par. Be careful and do your homework so that your guests feel fantastic and are safe! Be confident that your artist is talented, professional and clean so when everyone is celebrating at your event, the face painter you hired is creating that magic memory for everyone you had in mind to begin with and not a horror story!
When hiring a face painter:
Ask questions!
What type of paint do you use? Is it hypoallergenic? Is it easy to remove? How do my guests remove it? How often do you paint at parties? Can you paint my theme? How many full face painting will I get for my money?
Do your homework!
View samples of the face painters artwork
Ask questions about the artwork
Read their reviews
Do they carry liability insurance?
Use your common sense. If the face painter does not have sample photos of their own, at least 2 dozen on a site and they do not have any reviews, I suggest looking at other options.
Remember the old saying "You get what you pay for?"
There are different levels of face painters and different types of products for face painters. I would look for the best in professional design whom uses the best quality make up for faces. After all, it isn't even about the money so much as the safety of the product and the enjoyment of magical face paint!
For answers to any questions about face painting or body painting, feel free to drop me an email at honeybunchfaces@gmail.com or leave comments below and I will answer them. Thanks for reading and happy faces everyone!

Festival Face Painting in South Florida - You Never Forget Your Roots!
Hi Everyone,
It's been awhile since I've written any posts on my Blog. I've been busy face painting at festivals, carnivals, fairs, you name it, I was there!
I wanted to talk about this one festival I did for the first time in Sarasota 2 weeks ago. It was the Thunder by the Bay Festival in downtown Sarasota. I've never done a bike event before, So I decided to give this one a shot and I've never been so happy with the result. There are no better people than the folks that sponsor this event. They put in a lot of time and effort to make sure this festival makes everyone happy and it benefits the Suncoast Charities for Children.
The best thing about being there was I finally remembered where I come from. I am a biker kid and grew up around Harley Davidsons, beards, tattoos and what others would describe as "scary craziness'. To me, there's nothing scary about these guys. My whole family are bikers. My dad and all my uncles. Bikers are a different breed though. Usually honest and hearts bigger than their bikes! They take care of their own and they take care of children. This crowd was no different. I felt safe and at home at this festival and all the kids I painted were cool! It really was great! The Budweiser girls came to me all 3 days to get their faces painted and I made some new friends. I was actually able to leave my booth with all my stuff there unguarded and felt it was safe.
Suncoast Charities for Children is a 501(c)3 that provides funding support to Suncoast Foundation for Handicapped Children, Inc., which over the years has constructed area facilities valued at over $14 million dollars. These facilities are located in North Port, Venice, and Sarasota and last year provided services to approx. 8,000 special needs children, teens, adults and their families. Net proceeds raised from special events help maintain some of these aging facilities and support special project requests. This is beneficial so that the non-profits occupying these facilities for only $1 per year, can direct their program and service money towards the clients they serve. To contribute please click here and contact them directly: http://www.suncoastcharitiesforchildren.org/contact.phphttp://www.suncoastcharitiesforchildren.org/contact.php
I am an original rugrat that grew up and moved away from all the bikes and loud fun. I am so happy that I remembered where I come from. I will be back next year and help with their cause and any other future events because if it's for the babies, I'm there! Have a great 2016 everyone! Stay blessed, JoAnna Esposito, http://www.honeybunchfacepainting.com

Face Painting in Connecticut is like going to different Countries!
Hi Everyone!
It's been a while since I've blogged anything but I wanted to talk about my summer face painting at carnivals festivals and fairs. I live in St Petersburg, FL from the months of September to June and then I travel to the state I was born and raised in Connecticut. Even though I am a face painter in Florida, I've been face painting in Connecticut in the summer for the past two years now and it's really fascinating how this state has continued to keep some of these towns in very large ethnic groups. In the Tampa area, where I live most of the year, everything is all mixed up. There's a lot of everyone everywhere! But in Connecticut it's very different and here's why. There are entire towns that are just mostly Irish. Some towns are primarily made up of Italians, others are African American, Puerto Rican towns and even Swedish! I know that there are entire Lebanese communities in the Danbury area.
All these little ethnic towns have festivals and they are a lot of fun! I face paint in Danbury CT at the Lebanese festival and when you're there, it's like being in their country! They all speak primarily Arabic. They like to dance and smoke their hookahs. The food is authentic Lebanese and to DIE for. All these little festivals really are like taking a little mini vacation to another country! It's always great for someone to broaden their horizons a little and take a vacation to somewhere else and try something new.
Next time you see an ad for an ethnic festival, don't turn away from it! Go check it out and meet some new people, learn some new things about other people's cultures. I guarantee you will be a better person from the experiences you get. Mingle with the world and have fun. I do and I hope you do too!
Peace, Love and Happy Faces!
Honey Bunch

Face Painting in Florida Throughout The Holiday Season
Hi There,
It's me Honey, I just wanted to talk a little bit about how great it feels to make the kids happy by face painting them, I really love it. I've been to so many holiday parties face painting already and it's not even Christmas yet! Of course, we always have room for one more party though! This year's MUST HAVE in the 3 to 10 year old's Face Painting designs is Frozen. Oh how they love Anna and Elsa Face Painting! And the little boys love Olaf. Good thing we are true artists, not just face painters so these special requests are no problem. I can now say in confidence that yes, I am now a professional snowflake face painter too.. lol!
One of the best things in life is the smile and laughter of a child. I hope you all have a great New Year! Thanks for reading, Honey, http://honeybunchfacepainting.com and if you are in Florida and are in need of a face painter, give me a call! 727-565-3502.
Here are a couple of kids we made happy this holiday face painting:

I can't wait to Face Paint in Connecticut & Body Paint in NYC!
Hi Everyone,
Pretty soon I will make my first journey back home to Connecticut for the summer. Most of my family and my oldest friends still live there and I am excited to go home and see them! Since I am a face painter and I own this business, I can travel anywhere and work. That's a real blessing to me. I've been wanting to go home for an extended period of time for awhile now and I am beyond excited to finally be able to do this.
The purpose of this blog is to let everyone know I am booking gigs right now all through Central Connecticut for June and July. A lot of the time slots are already filled up so if you are in need of some fabulous face painting in Middletown CT
, or the surrounding towns, please give me a call at 727-565-3502 and let's book your party and amaze your guests.
I hope I get to see a lot of my friends and family and face paint every single one of them! I also will be heading over to Little Italy in NYC to face paint there too! I can't wait! If you live in RI, MASS and would like to book me, let me know. I might travel that far depending on the circumstance.
I am always available to face paint in NYC and will travel to you. I also body paint and am available in NYC and the surrounding area for photo shoots and movie sets. Just give me a call 727-565-3502. See you all soon! JoAnna :-)

Face Painting? Simpy put.. we draw a crowd!
RETAIL COMPANY? CORPORATION? TRADE SHOW? RESTAURANT?
Here's some food for thought... Did you ever notice that whenever there's a "great" face painter at an event there is almost always a long line? It's true. Kid's love having their faces painted and parents are usually willing to stand in line to let them do so.
That can be very beneficial to your business if your business is within sight of the line! Adults get bored standing in line just as the kids do and while they are standing there, you better believe they are looking around!
Now, imagine you are set up at a tradeshow, expo, etc... and you hire Honey Bunch Face Painting table to set up a table right next to yours or even inside your booth. We draw a crowd and you get attention! It's a win-win! That's smart, inexpensive, think out-of-the-box marketing!
Grand Openings, product launches and promotions, and many other business events need a way to attract attention. Hiring a professional face painter is a great way to do that! And, if you really want to go big... add body painting. A Living Canvas will catch and hold a ton of potential customers for you!
It has also become very popular for restaurants to hire a face painter on a regular basis for children's nights. Savvy restaurant owners know that having a face painter is a draw for business as word gets around. It's also a way to develop repeat business since parents will bring their children to get their faces painted time and time again!
One more thought... in recent years, as face and body painting becomes increasingly more popular, mere cheek doodles done by a hobby painter or a volunteer has given way to elaborate designs done by professionals. An amateur can NOT draw the crowd or hold the attention that a professional can. We specialize in face painting at large traffic events! Our face painters are fast and good at it. We love what we do and travel all over the state of Florida face painting at fairs and festivals. The events listed below, we travel to every year, but don't worry! We always have time to face paint for private parties!

After all, face painting is very serious business to a kid...
I think kids are hilarious and a lot of fun, especially when I face paint them. Sometimes when I face paint a child, he or she will request something completely out of the blue! For instance, take my friend Adam here. He told me he just got a Venus Fly Trap plant from his dad and he wanted me to turn him into one. "What Adam"? Yes, a Venus Fly Trap.
OK... well, I have never seen one before so I had to look them up. They don't really consist of much. Just a leaf and a stem. So I tried my best to convince him to do a different design. Surely A Spiderman face painting was way better. No way. He had his mind made up! He insisted this is what he wanted, as a matter of fact he HAD TO HAVE IT PLEASE, so I went ahead and honored his request. After all, I wanted him to be happy, it's my job! And he was happy ... because he said he was a Venus Fly Trap catching flies and he did! All night long... lol!

Face Painter's Send Children Into The World Of Make Believe
A lot of folks don’t understand children so it’s easy to see why they can't understand the thrill children get when we face paint them. I have been face painting in the Tampa Bay, Florida area for a while now. I'll tell you one thing that I have learned since my first gig face painting; children really love to play make believe! That's why they always want to see the face painter. I love it when I face paint a child, for example, as a tiger and when I am done they become a tiger, roaring and having fun!
Not too long ago, a friend of mine showed up at a festival I was face painting at. He was with his 3 sons. All his boys are under the age of ten. Once they entered my tent the transformation began. I painted the first boy as a dragon, the next spider man and the last one as a puppy dog. The boys were all thrilled with their face painting designs and were really happy!
The next day, I get a message on my Facebook Wall that reads “Hey JoAnna, thanks a lot for face painting my boys yesterday. I had a hard time getting them to let me wash off all their face painting designs last night but I had about all I could take of Spiderman trying to throw a web on the Dragon, then the Dragon trying to breath his fire breath on Spiderman to kill him. The poor puppy dog never had a chance”… lol!
But seriously, thank you. That was the first night in a long time where the boys did not fall asleep to TV or play video games and didn't complain about it. That was nice for a change!

Honey Bunch Face Painting in Tampa Bay Florida's answers to our Frequently Asked Questions:
At what age is it OK to paint a child?
It depends on the child but we generally will not paint a child under the age of 2. However, some children tolerate it better and we do try to accommodate all guests so if face painting is really wanted, we will try an arm or a leg on the younger children. In the cases where a parent is passionate about having their child face painted; we will decline if that child obviously does not want to be painted.
What type of face paint do you use at a face painting party?
We usually use Diamond FX brand exclusively although some of our rainbow pots may come from TAG brand from time to time. We find that these paints work best for us in the hot Florida weather. All paints and glitters used at any face painting party are professional, FDA approved, cosmetic grade, has anti-bacterial properties added to them and are hypoallergenic. Our face painting paints and face glitter are made for skin only.
How long does it take for each face painting design?
At a face painting party, each face takes 5 to 8 minutes each. For more intricate designs, it will take longer. It depends on the design and the amount of guests at the face painting party. We can face paint cheek art in a much shorter amount of time.
What about germs and cross contamination?
We do not face paint any face showing signs of break-outs, cold sores, a conspicuously runny nose or warts. We won't risk cross infection with other faces! In these cases, an arm, wrist or ankle can be painted instead. We also have many exciting temporary tattoos so no child will be disappointed. During the face painting party, we use hand sanitizer and baby wipes continuously. After each face painting event, we wash all our linens and equipment in hot soapy water and we soak our brushes and sanitize everything to be ready for the next face painting party.
How hard is it to wash off the face paint?
When removing the face painting makeup after a face painting party, use an old rag or a dark cloth with a gentle liquid baby cleanser that features a "tears free" soap. I prefer to use Johnson & Johnson No More Tears. Get the face very wet and lather, wipe off and rinse then repeat. Do not scrub and irritate the skin, the face paint will come off the skin with very little rubbing. If residue remains, moisturize the face, wait a half hour, then wash again.
What do I need to provide to prepare for the face painters arrival?
The only thing we need is an area large enough for our 6' table and directors chair. We also need a well lit area at night or a shady area during the day. We prefer to bring our own table and chairs that we use specifically at face painting parties but there are instances when we will ask the customer to have a table and chairs set up. We also have a festival tent that we can bring upon request for outdoor face painting parties that have no shade.
How well do you interact with small children?
We pride ourselves in our ability to relate to children of all ages. JoAnna is no stanger to children and comes from a rather large family! She has 5 siblings, 2 daughters, a grandchild, 22 nieces and nephews and literally countless baby cousins. We love all kids and play with them. We make them feel relaxed and protected while in the chair, as well as special, because they are.
How far do you travel?
We are professional, experienced, face painters based in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. Our town is Saint Petersburg, Florida and we will happily travel within a 100 mile radius of Saint Petersburg. Travel fees may apply if we need travel over 50 miles one way.
How much does a face painter cost?
It depends on the amount of guests at the party and the details but generally, it's $75 an hour for one face painter, $110 an hour for two face painters. Beware of really cheap face painters! Remember, you get what you pay for so do not use cheap face painters they equal cheap paint and poor quality.
How do I pay for my face painting service?
Cash as well as payments through Paypal. I will accept personal checks for a prepaid party if received at least one week prior.
How do I book my face painter?
We prefer the old fashioned method of calling me to discuss but probably the easiest way is through the website. Go to the Book Us Now page and fill out the form and we will call you to discuss all the details and get you on our calender.
Do you face paint at festivals and large events?
Yes we do. We have face painted at some of Florida's largest events and many of the festivals, fairs and carnivals throughout the entire state. We are a high volume company. Most of our jobs are bigger events. We enjoy every size but our forte is larger, fast paced events. We are professional, precise and quick. Able to do many faces nonstop and perfect.. all with a smile and sometimes a hug! :-)
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Make sure your provider uses FDA approved theater make up paints with non-latex sponges and is great with kids.
What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
What do you like most about your job?
The best thing about face painting is making the person we paint feel happy and special. There is NOTHING more satisfying and wonderful than giving that person a mirror when we're done painting them and watching the expression on their face as they gaze at their amazing transformation. It's awesome and a great job and makes everything worth it for us just to have that one moment in time with that person.
Are you just face painters or artists that face paint too?
We are professional artists who happen to love face painting.
Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

Does Face Painting Change Lives?
One of the best things about being a face painter is the connection you get with children. I know how impressionable they are. I can feel when one of them is not a happy child. I was face painting in Tampa Bay, FL not too long ago when a young girl of about 10 years old came into my tent, eyes lowered, asking for a face painting. Whenever a child does not look right at me, I know that child is shy or not happy for some reason. This little girl, I sensed was not happy. By the looks of her body language I was pretty sure she gets picked on or bullied, which happens a lot to introvert children.
So, I sit her down in the Director's chair and go to work. She said she didn't know what she wanted so I asked her if she would like me to face paint something beautiful on her? and she says, yes. I start by face painting beautiful flowers on her. Then, I have to ask her to sit up and look at me and I have to continue to ask her to stop slouching and please look up at me so I can paint. I add some swirls, a princess crown on her forehead and give her some pretty pink lips. I finish off the face painting with a little glitter and a rhinestone or two.
Finally, I am done. It's hard to paint a child who keeps looking down, but I never gave up. Then I show her the mirror, and this is where the magic happened: As she looked into the mirror with that same sad face, still slouched down and face looking downwards, she sees her face painting and she starts to sit up taller, she has the biggest smile I have ever seen!. She turns and looks straight at me. Then she looks back in the mirror, she is sitting straight up now, head held high and say's "I am so beautiful", as if this is the very first time in her life she has ever noticed how pretty she really is. She thanks me and leaves my tent with her head still high and that smile still on her face. She even has a little strut in her step! Her mom turns around and looks at me as she leaves and mouths the words "thank you".
What just transpired filled my heart and brought tears to my eyes. You never know when you need a face painter! We may just may change a child's life for the better!

This is my very first blog so I don't know what I'm doing but I do know I will figure it out. Today I wanted to talk about Face and Body painting at festivals and childrens imaginations.
One of the best things about face painting kids is the reaction I get when I am done creating what they asked for and have transformed her/him into a super hero or maybe a princess. Children have such wonderful imaginations, I wish more parents would open up their world to allow those imaginations to flourish. Once I am done painting a face, many times that child becomes whomever it is I have painted on their face. Maybe a cat or dog and they will go around barking and meowing or maybe Spiderman will save the world by throwing webs! One thing for certain, at that point in time no television, computer or arcade game can replace the imagination these children naturally have.
Parents, do your children a favor and encourage the use of their imaginations. It's so vital for their development and to better understand reality. I've been doing my part but I need you to do yours. Children are God's gifts.. bless every single one of them. I can help by coming out and painting your kids at parties, just check me out at http://www.honeybunchfacepainting.com or give me a call 727-565-3502. I look forward to hearing from you! - JoAnna
