Face Painter's Send Children Into The World Of Make Believe

A lot of folks don’t understand children so it’s easy to see why they can't understand the thrill children get when we face paint them. I have been face painting in the Tampa Bay, Florida area for a while now. I'll tell you one thing that I have learned since my first gig face painting; children really love to play make believe! That's why they always want to see the face painter. I love it when I face paint a child, for example, as a tiger and when I am done they become a tiger, roaring and having fun!
Not too long ago, a friend of mine showed up at a festival I was face painting at. He was with his 3 sons. All his boys are under the age of ten. Once they entered my tent the transformation began. I painted the first boy as a dragon, the next spider man and the last one as a puppy dog. The boys were all thrilled with their face painting designs and were really happy!
The next day, I get a message on my Facebook Wall that reads “Hey JoAnna, thanks a lot for face painting my boys yesterday. I had a hard time getting them to let me wash off all their face painting designs last night but I had about all I could take of Spiderman trying to throw a web on the Dragon, then the Dragon trying to breath his fire breath on Spiderman to kill him. The poor puppy dog never had a chance”… lol!
But seriously, thank you. That was the first night in a long time where the boys did not fall asleep to TV or play video games and didn't complain about it. That was nice for a change!
It's wonderful to know that even in today’s technology where computers try to do everything, they will never take over a child’s imagination! All you need is a little face painting Tampa!

All These Questions About Hiring A Face Painter In Tampa, Florida!

Hello Everyone! I hope the holiday's have treated you all well. Today I am not going to write a blog about face painting in Tampa, Florida. I have been asked so many questions lately about what I do and how I do it that I thought it would be a good idea to put my FAQ's here from my Honey Bunch Face Painting website. I'm excited about the growth of our company and the great people I have met along the way! So here are all my face painting FAQ's and if you need answers to any more questions, please Email me. I answer all my email in a timely manner.

Honey Bunch Face Painting in Tampa Bay Florida's answers to our Frequently Asked Questions:
At what age is it OK to paint a child?
It depends on the child but we generally will not paint a child under the age of 2. However, some children tolerate it better and we do try to accommodate all guests so if face painting is really wanted, we will try an arm or a leg on the younger children. In the cases where a parent is passionate about having their child face painted; we will decline if that child obviously does not want to be painted.

What type of face paint do you use at a face painting party?
We usually use Diamond FX brand exclusively although some of our rainbow pots may come from TAG brand from time to time. We find that these paints work best for us in the hot Florida weather. All paints and glitters used at any face painting party are professional, FDA approved, cosmetic grade, has anti-bacterial properties added to them and are hypoallergenic. Our face painting paints and face glitter are made for skin only.

How long does it take for each face painting design?
At a face painting party, each face takes 5 to 8 minutes each. For more intricate designs, it will take longer. It depends on the design and the amount of guests at the face painting party. We can face paint cheek art in a much shorter amount of time.

What about germs and cross contamination?
We do not face paint any face showing signs of break-outs, cold sores, a conspicuously runny nose or warts. We won't risk cross infection with other faces! In these cases, an arm, wrist or ankle can be painted instead. We also have many exciting temporary tattoos so no child will be disappointed. During the face painting party, we use hand sanitizer and baby wipes continuously. After each face painting event, we wash all our linens and equipment in hot soapy water and we soak our brushes and sanitize everything to be ready for the next face painting party.

How hard is it to wash off the face paint?
When removing the face painting makeup after a face painting party, use an old rag or a dark cloth with a gentle liquid baby cleanser that features a "tears free" soap. I prefer to use Johnson & Johnson No More Tears. Get the face very wet and lather, wipe off and rinse then repeat. Do not scrub and irritate the skin, the face paint will come off the skin with very little rubbing. If residue remains, moisturize the face, wait a half hour, then wash again.

What do I need to provide to prepare for the face painters arrival?
The only thing we need is an area large enough for our 6' table and directors chair. We also need a well lit area at night or a shady area during the day. We prefer to bring our own table and chairs that we use specifically at face painting parties but there are instances when we will ask the customer to have a table and chairs set up. We also have a festival tent that we can bring upon request for outdoor face painting parties that have no shade.

How well do you interact with small children?
We pride ourselves in our ability to relate to children of all ages. JoAnna is no stanger to children and comes from a rather large family! She has 5 siblings, 2 daughters, a grandchild, 22 nieces and nephews and literally countless baby cousins. We love all kids and play with them. We make them feel relaxed and protected while in the chair, as well as special, because they are.

How far do you travel?
We are professional, experienced, face painters based in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. Our town is Saint Petersburg, Florida and we will happily travel within a 100 mile radius of Saint Petersburg. Travel fees may apply if we need travel over 50 miles one way.

How much does a face painter cost?
It depends on the amount of guests at the party and the details but generally, it's $75 an hour for one face painter, $110 an hour for two face painters. Beware of really cheap face painters! Remember, you get what you pay for so do not use cheap face painters they equal cheap paint and poor quality.

How do I pay for my face painting service?
Cash as well as payments through Paypal. I will accept personal checks for a prepaid party if received at least one week prior.

How do I book my face painter?
We prefer the old fashioned method of calling me to discuss but probably the easiest way is through the website. Go to the Book Us Now page and fill out the form and we will call you to discuss all the details and get you on our calender.

Do you face paint at festivals and large events?
Yes we do. We have face painted at some of Florida's largest events and many of the festivals, fairs and carnivals throughout the entire state. We are a high volume company. Most of our jobs are bigger events. We enjoy every size but our forte is larger, fast paced events. We are professional, precise and quick. Able to do many faces nonstop and perfect.. all with a smile and sometimes a hug! :-)

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Make sure your provider uses FDA approved theater make up paints with non-latex sponges and is great with kids.

What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

What do you like most about your job?
The best thing about face painting is making the person we paint feel happy and special. There is NOTHING more satisfying and wonderful than giving that person a mirror when we're done painting them and watching the expression on their face as they gaze at their amazing transformation. It's awesome and a great job and makes everything worth it for us just to have that one moment in time with that person.

Are you just face painters or artists that face paint too?
We are professional artists who happen to love face painting.

Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
What makes us unique is unlike most face painters who have learned specific designs and only know those, we are real artists that can paint anything and draw whatever you want directly on your face or body.

Does Face Painting Change Lives?

One of the best things about being a face painter is the connection you get with children. I know how impressionable they are. I can feel when one of them is not a happy child. I was face painting in Tampa Bay, FL not too long ago when a young girl of about 10 years old came into my tent, eyes lowered, asking for a face painting. Whenever a child does not look right at me, I know that child is shy or not happy for some reason. This little girl, I sensed was not happy. By the looks of her body language I was pretty sure she gets picked on or bullied, which happens a lot to introvert children.
So, I sit her down in the Director's chair and go to work. She said she didn't know what she wanted so I asked her if she would like me to face paint something beautiful on her? and she says, yes. I start by face painting beautiful flowers on her. Then, I have to ask her to sit up and look at me and I have to continue to ask her to stop slouching and please look up at me so I can paint. I add some swirls, a princess crown on her forehead and give her some pretty pink lips. I finish off the face painting with a little glitter and a rhinestone or two.

Finally, I am done. It's hard to paint a child who keeps looking down, but I never gave up. Then I show her the mirror, and this is where the magic happened: As she looked into the mirror with that same sad face, still slouched down and face looking downwards, she sees her face painting and she starts to sit up taller, she has the biggest smile I have ever seen!. She turns and looks straight at me. Then she looks back in the mirror, she is sitting straight up now, head held high and say's "I am so beautiful", as if this is the very first time in her life she has ever noticed how pretty she really is. She thanks me and leaves my tent with her head still high and that smile still on her face. She even has a little strut in her step! Her mom turns around and looks at me as she leaves and mouths the words "thank you".

What just transpired filled my heart and brought tears to my eyes. You never know when you need a face painter! We may just may change a child's life for the better!

This is my very first blog so I don't know what I'm doing but I do know I will figure it out. Today I wanted to talk about Face and Body painting at festivals and childrens imaginations.

One of the best things about face painting kids is the reaction I get when I am done creating what they asked for and have transformed her/him into a super hero or maybe a princess. Children have such wonderful imaginations, I wish more parents would open up their world to allow those imaginations to flourish. Once I am done painting a face, many times that child becomes whomever it is I have painted on their face. Maybe a cat or dog and they will go around barking and meowing or maybe Spiderman will save the world by throwing webs! One thing for certain, at that point in time no television, computer or arcade game can replace the imagination these children naturally have.

Parents, do your children a favor and encourage the use of their imaginations. It's so vital for their development and to better understand reality. I've been doing my part but I need you to do yours. Children are God's gifts.. bless every single one of them. I can help by coming out and painting your kids at parties, just check me out at http://www.honeybunchfacepainting.com or give me a call 727-565-3502. I look forward to hearing from you! - JoAnna
